Fat Quarterly #16 | January/February/March 2010 |
Dear Sewing Friends, Happy New Year! I borrowed this list from The Red Rooster Coop Newsletter of 2006: “A Quilters New Year’s Resolutions: 1. Add to stash 2. Reduce UFO pile 3. Learn something new in the needle arts.” What a great list! It doesn’t include losing weight-except for the fabric in the UFO pile, exercising five days a week, decreasing caffeine intake, stopping smoking, increasing meals cooked at home, cleaning the house more frequently or any other items on your resolutions list. Take time in 2010 for yourself. Learn something new like crochet socks, appliqué, hand embroidery, beginning quilting or serging. There are great classes and a whole day for UFO’s each month and a Thimbleberries Sewing Lounge. The staff is trying to honor your requests with pillowcases and purses. The other request will be filled later in the year. Thanks to those who responded and made class suggestions. Don’t worry about the weather- there is plenty of room in the schedule for make up classes. A few changes have been made at the shop for 2010. There will be no shopping hours on Mondays and no evening hours on Tuesdays. The hours of operation are Tuesday- Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are stuck in traffic or need something please call and we will make every effort to accommodate your needs. Thimbleberries have been changed to a Sewing Lounge the 4th Wed. and Thur. of each month. Peg will be teaching a project and kits will be available for these projects. Call for more details and check the calendar for the dates. Bring your machine or rent one of ours for $8.00 per session. What better way to lose those winter blues than sewing with friends. Once again, we will be participating in the Quilter’s Weekend at the Heinz History Center, Saturday, Jan. 23 and Sunday, Jan.24 from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. This year the events include: antique quilt displays, machine demos, hands-on activities, quilt book exchange and a special presentation on African American quilting plus a behind the scenes look at Gees Bend/ Nia Quilters Project. Please be sure to join us. Other special free events at the Shop are a Charity Sewing Day- Sat. Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring fabric from your stash for a pillowcase or finish one of our Linus quilts. Sewing machines and sergers will be provided. Do you have presser feet in your sewing machine that are a mystery? We will solve that dilemma with a Feet Demo Day on Sat. March 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Learn all about those mystery feet and how to use them to the best advantage. Check the clearance section in the shop. We have added over 50 bolts of fabric, more patterns, magazines and notions at great prices. Best Wishes, Diane | |
